BiblioChip RFID Library System

Contact DA Library Technologies for more information on Radio Frequency Identification - RFID products or BiblioChip

The BiblioChip™ RFID Library System, from Bibliotheca, addresses increased pressure for higher service levels without more staff and is implemented for item identification, self checkout, antitheft control, inventory control and the sorting and conveying of library materials.

Bibliotheca Radio Frequency Identification systems provide this capability within a standards based system, compliant with the ISO standards 15693 and 18000-3.

BiblioChip includes the following modules:

Patron Self Check
At the BiblioSelfCheck the patron identifies themselves with a BiblioChip Patron card or a barcoded library card. The patron can then put a stack of items for circulation on the desktop. Details of this material will be displayed on the Self Check Screen. A receipt may be printed if desired. The self check also allows patrons to return items (if the library wishes), as well as view their account and renew books (according to library rules). BiblioChip provides a choice of self check units, including Geneva self check and Lucerne self check units, allowing libraries to choose the units best suited to their design and layout.

Staff Stations
At the circulation desk a BiblioPad Staff Station is installed. This station can be utilised for both staff assisted circulation and for initialising new material and attaching RFID labels. Conversion on the fly is also possible at the circulation desk using the BiblioPad.

Security Gates
Every patron enters and leaves the library through the BiblioGates. In contrast to common EAS systems (electronic article surveillance), every single book which is not checked out properly will be identified by title, barcode number, author, etc. In this case an alarm will be set off. BiblioChip also includes a Gate Tracking System which records the details of any items which have breached security. These details can be sent to any workstation on your network.

Automated Returns
At the BiblioReturn patrons can return books automatically. The automatic book return can be set up outside the library or in the entrance area, allowing a secure 24 hour returns facility. Once an item has entered the BiblioReturn it is returned in the Library Management System. If desired, patrons are able to print a receipt as evidence of the return of their items.

Book Sorting Systems
The BiblioReturn is complemented by the optional BiblioSorter. The sorter system allows for any number of sorts from three sorter bins upwards. Once a book is returned the system uses the RFID tag to determine into which bin it should be sorted. For example, the Library may have one bin for the current location, one for other branches, and one for reserved items. The BiblioSorter provides a sophisticated sorting algorithm allowing considerable flexibility to meet the needs of libraries of all sizes.

Inventory Control
The BiblioWand inventory control system provides the means for efficient shelf checking, inventory maintenance, and the location of an individual book.

RFID Labels
BiblioChip labels are ISO standards compliant and available for books, videos, CD/DVDs and media kits. The unique Secure Solution provides a high level of security for CDs and DVDs, without the need to lock these items away behind the circulation desk, or deal with locked cases. The security is on the actual disk; even if the case is removed the disk is still secure.

Integration to your Library Management System
BiblioChip offers SIP2 and NCIP compliant interfaces to your Library Management System. In addition it is possible to provide an API toolkit to your LMS vendor, allowing more complete integration. There is no requirement for an additional server.
